Discovering Mount Tre Pizzi, between trails and scattered hospitality

Experiences Activities Accommodations

Explore one of the "stones" that characterizes the Ionian side of Italy's southernmost mountain, Aspromonte. Mount Tre Pizzi appears as a mighty rock bastion reaching out to the valleys below, named for its unique formation consisting of three towers of granite rock, a monolith shaped like three fingers. Our excursion begins from Antonimina. From here, traveling dirt roads and paths, we will reach the ridge of Mount Tre Pizzi. Initially, we will cross plots of land used for the cultivation of cereals and fodder for livestock, meadows, and hills. As we ascend, the Mediterranean scrub, consisting of heather, myrtle, broom, mastic, strawberry trees, and all the typical plants of the scrub and lower slopes of Aspromonte, olive groves, and other crops supported by dry stone walls will greet us. The forest begins, with holm oaks, oaks, and pines alternating, changing the colors of the vegetation with each step. At an altitude of 752 m, the path will become easier, with some short ups and downs. Once at the top, we will overlook the "Terrezza" with a view of the Costa dei Gelsomini; the panorama will be unparalleled, from the rock of Gerace, continuing through the heights of Pietra Cappa and the summit of Montalto to Limina, much of the Ionian Aspromonte will be visible. At the foot of the mountain, as evidenced by some ruins, there is a convent of hermit friars, probably dating back to the 12th century. Until a few centuries ago, the mountain was a destination for pilgrims from all over Locride during the annual cattle fair in honor of Saint Peter. The return will be along a path that passes below the highest peak of Tre Pizzi. We will encounter the typical Mediterranean scrub, some semi-wild goat and sheep herds, and passing through the "Grutta du mutu," the refuge of an old hermit shepherd, as legend has it, until we reach the locality of Zefrò, an area mainly cultivated with olives and cereals. Continuing the descent, we will head towards the inhabited center of Antonimina, where our excursion will conclude.

About Us

NATURE TRAILS AND SCATTERED HOSPITALITY
The Boschetto Fiorito Association has created various hiking trails starting from the historic center, allowing you to see the natural, historical, and archaeological wonders present in the Aspromonte National Park. The association takes its name from the legend that the name of the village would derive from the Greek "Antos Nemos," which translates, indeed, to "Blossoming Grove." The goals of the Boschetto Fiorito Association are the enhancement and rediscovery of this ancient Aspromontane village through various forms, including scattered hospitality that conveys the true essence of the village and allows you to experience the true village in all its facets.
